More than just dolls

When it comes to modelling many people think that models shouldn´t cultivate their own personality, they are just allowed to have great style (for example the legendary style of Kate Moss or style icons like Iekeline Stange, etc..), but that´s all.

Fortunately as times are changing and the industry is envolving, models are finally getting the chance to enhance their creativity in several kinds. For instance, the lovely and worldwide known Coco Rocha has done a super-cool photo-shoot for Elle-US march issue in which she is the star and not the dresses she´s wearing.
For me Coco is refreshingly intelligent and witty which is so rare these days...

Can´t open my eyes

As I am currently suffering from the biggest hang-over of my life, I just want to list my tips for moments like this.

1. Have a long lie-in if your schedule allows it.

2. Move slowly - otherwise you end up like myself, balancing through the bus trying to grasp some old man´s hand, because I felt so dizzy.

3. Drink stuff with lemons in it - it is refreshing and also highly recommended by my lovely cousin with whom I earned myself this disastrous state I am in right now.

4. Stay away from anything like alcohol!

5. Relax, catch as much fresh air as possible, watch your favourite TV series (Seattle Grace, I am coming!!) and enjoy a good read - simple things will do you the best.

And generally, do not drink & drive.

Plus: Drinking water between cocktails helps a lot (gosh, I am such a hypocrite;)).

Brabbling about Brigitte

About two days ago my mum and I watched "The Truth" starring Brigitte Bardot and Sami Frey. It is about a girl which struggles finding the love and job of her life and then finds both, but as she loses one she accidently shoots him and then kills herself after having to watch her lovestory being discussed and ripped apart in court.

I loved the movie! BB really played it well and she screamed and yelled as good as can be. But what I found more fascinating were the clothes she wore. To sum it up, she wore sixties clothes, but with a more fifties touch to it - high waisted skirts with belts and tight-fitting shirts with a plunging neckline.
Her hair and make-up - OH MY! I loved it... I think Brigitte was so sexy in this film, but still she sort of had a touch of elegance - even when lying naked in bed in front of a stranger.

Weather vs. Fashion

Yeees, there is nothing wrong with your eyes - I am just a bit desperate. Spring is here to come and I am definetly in the mood for flirty skirts, flowery dresses, light jackets and sexy sandals. But what I have to face is: this thursday I am flying to Dublin to stay there for a week. And I have to bury my fashion inspiration for this week, because school trips mean water-protective jackets and clumsy looking shoes.

Oh my god, how will I cope with this? I will just sort of do it the half way: wear the flirty skirt, a thick tight and the - yuck - timberlands and my trench, just to pair a nice umbrella with it. Because Dublin sort of means rain right?

Saturday night was great. I had a little intimate chat with my girl nylonkong (http://mynylonkong.blogspot.com/) at the worlds (or at least Viennas) greatest restaurant. We were laughing, chatting, guffawing at celebs and simply enjoying the night.

When it comes to decide what to wear for going out, I always find it hard to handle that. Because you want to look sexy, but not like a slut. Neither like a nun, right?

My favourite item for going out at the moment is definetly my paillette waistcoat - it has a party vibe, but the loose cut makes it look more laid-back and cool. I wear it with a grey v-neck and tight jeans and my favourite Zara ankle boots or with a black dress, dotted tights and my boots, of course.

When you want to go a bit more demure (but in a good, fashionable kind of way) you should definetly choose a christopher kane number. They may look a bit too sculptural, but lately celebs (f.i.: Emma Watson, ...) show that they can really look sexy when you pair them with Charlotte Olympia shoes and an un-done hairstyle.

Sometimes life is about the simple stuff

Although I love magazines (OMG i repeat myself) I hate the way they force trends and stuff. They usually pick one trend and then that´s the only thing to wear... But in real life, individuality and personal style are more worth than being a little, dumb trendfollower.

But I kind of like denim right now. I have a lot of denim pieces...

For instance for my last birthday I got this really nice denim chain bag from Mango... I love this bag, because it is light, it has sort of a medium size which is perfect for me, because I can use it for school, going out and shopping, it has lots of in-door compartements and it comes in a light blue denim, which totally takes on the current trend...

Or my levis shirt. It was originally owned by my dad, but a few months ago I stole it (sshhhh, don´t tell anyone ;) ). I know it is a bit weird to wear your dad´s shirt when you want to take on the "boyfriend"-look, but who cares, right?

When it comes to denim, you have to choose: do you want to go high-fashion (acne on the top left) or cheap looking (dolce & gabbana).

I really dislike the whole western thing... Do YOU want to look like that? And those high-waisted hot-pants are way too much I think, it always seems as if they were trying too hard to get the buyers back.

For me, Alexa Chung should be crowned the Queen of Denim, because she manages to make denim look laid-back, classic, chique and kind of creative at the same time.

Glitz and Glamour

Here you can see my favourite glitzy stuff. There are so many pieces which really mean a lot to me. Jewellry is a bit like little memories, because whenever I look at that bracelet or this cuff I start to remember what I experienced having them on or how I got them or who got me them. There are many, many stories and they make me happy whenever I feel miserable.

As you can see, I love to wear black and golden jewellry, but since my addiction to SatC took off I am also fond of pearls, because I love the way they look on young girls like me. They are a bit grandma-ish, I know. Everyone at school is always like "oooh, you are wearing pearls??", but I don´t care, because pearls are so funky and classic at the same time. Better wearing them now with torn shorts and paillette-vests than with a black dress when you are like 45 or something (not that that´s a bad age or anything).

I am so pissed right now that I can´t wear my trench. It is march for heavens sake - aren´t we supposed to have it warm right now? or at least: warmer. And whilst I am writing this, it is snowing outside. :(
Although I am so not into the whole red-carpet thing, because I think that that´s not fashion as for me fashion means real people wearing nice, interesting and individual clothes and not everybody the same nail polish and dresses. It is such a industry thing!!!
But I loved SJPs dress, it was a classic and she looked amazingly elegant and graceful (I feel like a grandma saying that). I adored the jewellry she wore, those dark brilliant-studded bracelets and they way she combined them with the embellishment on her chanel number - amazing.
Her hair was perfect too. If I had (hahaha, if I somebody forced me) to go there I would like to look like that too. It looks relaxed, chique and beautiful. I also like the fact that it doesn´t look too sexy, because the Oscars aren´t the place to be sexy in my opinion...

All about nails

Growing up, I have developed a serious kind of addiction for nail polish. I love the feel of it, the colours and the elegant or sexy or flirty or all-together look it gives you. For me nail lacquer is a big part of an outfit and it just makes boring things look like a stylist had put them together.

This season, there had been one big trend in the nail section and this trend was - from where else? - coming from chanel!

The beauty department of chanel has grown so important in the last couple of years that by now the trends are sort of combined with nails and make-up. Which is - in my opinion - the best thing that could´ve happened, because to be honest chanel is an veeery old brand and it is fascinating that it still sort of survives in this unimaginable quick industry. And the only way to survive there is to offer clients the whole package: clothes, beauty - everything what a woman needs (okay that sounds veeeery superficial, but you know what I am talking of, right?).

Over the last years, I found out that the commercial beauty market (at least here in Austria) is soooooo slow in taking on the fashion trends. For instance, it took like one and a half year to be able to buy black nail lacquer at a normal beauty store, whilst the big (and expensive) fashion brands already had launched their vampire-inspired nail polishes.

So, this season it is chocolate. Well, of course I love the idea and the way it turned out. I think it is a perfect addition to an outfit that needs a bit of elegance and chiqueness (does this word exist? - anyway...), maybe some slutty (you know which outfits I am talking about) going-out outfits. But I am afraid that if you choose to wear it with a normal, classic business outfit it could look a bit too demure and elegant - at least for my taste.

I love the chanel make-up by the way, but I literally shiver when I see it in combination with the nails. It is just too earthy, I think. Combine the nails with dark eyes and nude lips, while pairing the blushy, fresh make-up with red or dark-red nails for a more contrasting look.

In every magazine I am literally searching for this stylish goddess: Olivia Palermo. Last year the world (and myself) fell in love with her because of her super-chique, polished style and subtle arrogance. But as this year begun and moved on, she just kept looking worst and worst. I don´t know why. It is like in 2008 when Mischa Barton stopped looking boho, and started looking drunk and like a drug-addict.

Olivias nails just show her way of living. She is a wealthy girl, so she can afford manicure every(day?)week and the colours is so popping and still not over-done that you can wear it every where. I looove it!

My family (okay, the females in my family) have always worn red nail polish and so I was happy to inherit that and take the tradition on.

I also love Olivias jewellry (that necklace, those rings she is always wearing, yes, even this watch - OMG), but sometimes I think she looks too well put-together. Because what is kind of modern and fresh is that you actually can interpret fashion in a more easy-breezy, laid-back kind of way and not in this strict and straight one.

Great outfit for Café on weekends, right? Maybe, this saturday? I should phone the girls....

My other nail-goddess (yes, I am that obsessed with it that I even sort of have nail-lacquer role models) is Whitney Port. She and Olivia star in MTVs THE CITY.

Although you can´t quite see her nails here, I think this photo just shows her very unique way of style. She is a designer too and even when you only look at her nails, you sense her creativity. She has done it all - blue, yellow, orange, sparkles, red, dark-red, black, dark-blue, turquoise... I did too, because I love her and I love colour.
As I am writing this I start to think wheter I should get my nails done in red (olivia) or pink (whit)?
Hmmmm....

Show me your shoes and I´ll maybe love you

I don´t know if you had guessed it by now, but my favourite show is SatC (which would explain why I mention it in every second post ;) ) and shoes are definetly a biig part of the show. Whenever I watch some episodes (it´s like beer for an alcoholic, I can´t watch only one I have to move on to the next) I have to smile when I look at the shoes the girls are totally crazy about. Because those are so not today, they are overly pointy and come in strange heights (very low or very, very high). Shoes are a very time-bond thing I guess. For instance the pair on the left: in two years there will be many people who´ll look at you in an unelegant kind of way, whilst now they will admire you for wearing them.

Aren´t they gorgeous? The plateau gives Wsomething forbidden, the stilletto something elegant and the ribbon-ish thing is a bit girly and romantic - I guess this shoe actually represents my personality. Do you think if I told the guys at Fendi that this shoe was designed with the different aspects of my well, yes kind of disturbed personality that they would give them to me for free? No? :(
Anyway, GORGEOUS.
This season fendis shoes and bags are at least as high on my wishlist as chanels suits, mcqueens dresses and rykiels hats.

Oh my god. Those shoes make me feel sad and happy at the same time, because they let me dream of myself in them and remind me of the fact that they cost more than my dublin trip next week (so excited, btw!).

Although plexi-glass is sort of meant to look cheap and disgusting: this bag just looks right. And, I mean, you could wear it to everthing, because it is like, well, invisible??? Isn´t that everthing we have ever dreamt of? A bag which can hold our belongings without existing??? Kind of reminds me of a Magritte painting.... (gosh, those are the kind of sentences which make you feel veeeeery intelligent, I normally throw tomatos at guys who talk like that, waaaatch out, tomato attack!)

PINK! PLATEAU! SHOELACES! This mixture just makes me stare in disbelief of such beauty and perfection........

and now do it with me, girls: WE WANT THOSE SHOES NOW!

I would were them to black outfits, to my new trench and for going out. Maybe I´d even wear it when going to bed....

Kirkwood should be mentioned in every dictionary next to the word SUPERCOOLSEXYCREATIVE.

And now, I am not a total psycho.

As you might have found out, I love plateaus, because they give me height without the pain you have to endure when wearing just stillettos.

Nearly every catwalk picture from style.com

Well, I ´ll probably need a bigger closet for next season

I know, there has been a lot of talk about mcqueens last season, because - obviously it was sort of what he had left. So, I just want to add that I really adore the print, it´s vibrant, eye-catching and as many celebs showed on the red carpet it is actually kind of wearable.

I loved the shoes, the hair and even the barely there make-up. I think they just sort of put white powder over the models faces to make them look nearly invisible.

THE HAIR! Oh my god. This idea of horn-like styled upper parts and everything non-shiny and a bit disgusting - GENIUSAnd, hopefully I don´t have to explain, why I love the shoes, because obviously (come on, they look like hooves, who cares if you can actually walk in them properly?) they are so eccentric and perfectly fitting into the collection.

Alexander Mcqueen really did a great job on this collection, which is the only positive thing I can say, because he went way to early and surely there would have been many, many surprising, exciting, delighting, astonishing and inspiring (add some other adjectives if you want) collections to come.

R.I.P.

Of course, there were many other trendsetting shows, for example: Alexander "king of cool & sexy" wang (and yes I just used wang and sexy in the same sentence and yes, I know that it can also mean penis, ha ha ha).

Wang is a genius. He turns things I don´t like into things I think I can´t live without. For instance, this one season where he did bold colours and goth elements? I hated goth and always backed away from people wearing something like orange, blue or yellow. But he just made it look and feel right and for that I adore and love him. He also did his magic in this season, although I thought it was a bit more boring than his earlier collections. Maybe it is because of the wearability of this collection or the colour pallette he used, but still it seemed like he was too busy to really, really give his heart (but still, he is a genius and the collection is enourmously well done).

I already told you how great the hair was done, but pleeease: look at those shooes! And the way he did the trench! It seems as if he had taken a normal, classic trench, torn it apart and then kind of sewed it together. I also love how the pants look, although I thought they and the ones Marc Jacobs did this season looked too much alike, but anyway, the fabrics look luxurious, but still laid-back - totally wang-ish!

I really don´t know the reason, but whenever I look at this ensemble it reminds me of a typical Carrie- look (note to myself, less Sex and the City seasons, more real sex ;)).

Now some other looks I would die for:

Please, take a look at this crazy number at the left! OH MY! I would wear it with barely-there make-up and green Charlotte Olympia shoes (maybe you´ll see other ones later on) and my black vintage bag - aarrgh, I need the money and the occasions to wear this stuff to!!!

To be honest, I am not a big fan of Sonia Rykiel, but I like her ambitions and definetly love that she lets the models look happy and (at least) kind of healthy. Last season she had them say little monologues, which I found really funny.

The hats look super-sweet and the hair is (as always) too cute to be true, but I can´t quite see the reason for those belts and colours she used, but anyway - gosh, those girls look happy (just compare them to the ICEBERG-girls - what a difference).

The biking-pants are the best I have seen this season, although nearly everyone (vuitton, marni, marc jacobs,...) did those. I love the colours and would (maybe, okay, I said maybe) wear them.

Spring, anyone?

I know, I know. Maybe spring fashion is the last thing you want to read about, because all the cool fashion gals have been writing about it five months ago. But I can´t recall any of it and so, we on planet earth talk about spring in spring. Which is, like, right now. Or at least which should be right now... Lousy weather!

Aaaaah, gosh I love the chanel collection. I guess chanel is a bit like a really subtle, good joke - you don´t get it at first, but after a while you love it. Last seasons long, swingy skirts were phenomous and the hair and make-up was young & freaky (green nails with fake lashes on the lower lashes). But this season totally rocked it. It was so girly, fresh and a bit tough, but not in a strict kind of way more gentle and flirty.

Okay, so you don´t have to love the clogs. I don´t - but I still think it fits perfectly and gave the whole collection something quirky and new. Because - this is my opinion - in fashion it´s always changing from opposite to opposite. So now we had stillettos (don´t worry, we still love and have ´em) and that´s why the designer felt the need to do something fresh: big, unelegant shoes. If you want to try the trend (which I would only recommend if you have long lean legs and a bit of courage for the sound they produce) go for the Zara version, they have done really nice ones which are quite high and don´t remind me too much of swedish milk maids.

But, anyway - this colour! I would love to touch the fabric, it looks so elegant and light at the same time. I love the shoulder part (thank god, shoulders are still sort of in) and the kind of white tights too. It´s also new and fresh and it is refreshing to see something else than black opaque.

Oh my gosh - this is so chique and sexy. I´d kill for this suit, or at least rob a bank!

And, you gotta take a look at the bags: the old 2.55 was styled up with nature-inspired fabrics and little flowers - so sweet.

As always, the nail lacquer was trend-setting: I love this elegant taupe nuance, because it is fashionable, but not over-done. Let´s not forget about the whole tattoo thing every magazine was crazy about: yeees, they have done something like that, but I still think - although I agree it is a fun idea - that it shouldn´t be more important than the clothes, because the tattoos wouldn´t work without the pretty suits and dresses to toughen them up.

I love this outfit, although I always dislike Lagerfelds take on the darker tones - in my opinion, he is always over-doing it by adding lots and lots of gothic-inspired elements (cuffs, tattoos, gloves,...), but this look sort of works. Maybe it´s because of the sheer headscarf dree hemingway (which is the model and grand-daughter of Ernest Hemingway, she is kinda a socialite and really stylish, which is kind of obvious) is wearing with it. It breaks the strong and strict theme of the suit and softens the shoes. I also adore the tutu-ish skirt under the a-line jacket and the round neck with the black ribbon just make me happy. This is a outfit I´d wear to every occasion which might come up, beginning from wedding to grannies b-day to funeral (spitting three times behind me and knocking on wood and no, i am so NOT supersticious! ;)).

YOU´VE GOT THE LOVE!

Well, let´s talk about the florence & the machine concert I went to last night.

For all of you who don´t know the group: they are british, their music is perfect for dancing and (!) chilling and they even got the brit award for best album last year .(http://www.florenceandthemachine.net/)

I went with my cousin, her boyfriend and her friend - we had so much fun.

While I balanced my beer in one hand and my bag (you know the vintage, black one) and grey coat (maybe there is going to be a pic of it sometime) in the other one I climbed up the stairs till we reached the perfect place. It was so awesome, just to sit there, listen to great music, chat to my lovely cousin and I was simply enjoying the moment.

Florence, oh my gosh, that girl rocks! She gave it all and jumped, danced, sang and drummed her ass off. I was in awe of her beautiful red hair (and haircut: btw, I´d love to have bangs like she does, but they don´t look well on me) and her unique style. As far as I can tell (which means as good as I saw her, because I forgot my glasses and otherwise I am a bit shortsighted - I often recognize that I met certain people, but didn´t greet them, because I literally saw through them) she wore a loose black shirt and a very fluffy and swingy skirt. To spice things up she added a silver, big necklace. I tried to get a glimpse of her shoes as I expected something special, but as I looked at her feet I found out she was barefooted. Which was quite impressive, because we had like 6 or 7 C°. But she looked so perfectly dreamy and hippie-like, that it fitted just right. Her moves were fantastic and her voice - oh my freakin´ god - that girl can sing!!! Her voice gave me goose bumps...

Strike a pose!

Haha, this picture looks so "natural". Shirt: vintage levi´s, hat: gift, glasses: found, bag: vintage, leggings, tee: h&m, shoes: zara.

This is basically my weekendlook, because when I don´t feel I have to look super slim and good I just throw on my levi´s and just feel well.

Right now, I am getting ready for the "Florence & the machine" concert tonight. I actually wanted to go all glamourous and freaky, but now I didn´t buy myself this freaky-quirky hat and so I´m just going to use red lipstick to lift my boring outfit (white blouse, black leggings, grey boots) to another level.

I don´t know if there´s anyone actually reading what I am writing here! So, guys, what do you do to lift your outfit to another level? Pair a gun with it? Tell me!

Things I love about Paris

  • the people. I know, when you come to Paris, everyone is like: be aware of the bad-tempered inhabitants! But actually, as I found out, they are kinda nice! They even helped me carry my luggage through the labyrinth or how they call it: metro. I have never experienced anyone impolite, but I did see tourists who would deserve such behaviour...
  • Ladurée. I am not a chocoholic, which is to be honest not totally fashionable. Because today cholocate is soo trendy, that you really stand out (in a bad way) when you don´t eat it. But Ladurée has such a nice interior and this one waiter was such a hottie, that I couldn´t help loving the place as much as a chocoholic´d love it.
  • obviously: the fashion. For me, Paris is like a big jewellry box (like my mum´s) which I like to explore when I´m bored and the only alternative would include mental work. You can buy so many different things and it´s all about looking the way you want and not the way a fashion magazine or a designer wants you to look. Paris stands for indiviuality and inspiration.
  • Marais. I went to Paris last summer and in the two weeks I stayed there I went 10 times into Marais, which is the most beautiful district of Paris (from my point of view). It´s full of history, it´s jewish (hell, how cool is that??), it has lots and lots of bakeries, pastries and stuff (yummy!) and there are like millions of little shops - especially vintage ones. They are great and quite unique.

There are so many things left on my list, but I don´t want to tell you everything: Paris is a city you have to explore on your own. It is full of perfume, incredibly good food, very good-looking and charming guys and lovely ladies.

Outfit on upper picture: dress, vest, sunglasses: h&m, necklace: monsoon, bag: longchamp, sandals: pimkie (eeeuuuuuw, I know, but they are great, believe me)

You know life is good, when you find an eighties bridesmaid dress that fits you perfectly

Today I spent some hours at my favourite humana shop (www.humana.org). It´s not posh, not super-cool and the people that are in there are something between clochard and student, but I feel comfortable there. It smells a bit odd and the music is too swingy, but the clothes are great. It´s really the best way to spend my time school-off.
Firstly, I tried on something like a cocktail jacket in silver and black from the eighties. It had huge shoulderpads and I still thought it looked cool.
The one item I bought myself was the yellow short. It has a high waist and fits me quite well as I think. It has a light, summery fabric and the colour makes my closet shine. Definetly going to pair it with other ice-cream-like colours.
AND NOW: the dress. I spotted it right away. To understand that, you have to know that I am all about dots - I loooove them! Dots are a simple way to look different. My mum and I are total dot-maniacs and we´d go "oooh" and "aaaah" when we´d spot an item with them on it. The dress caught my eye also, because it had a nice ruffly collar and simply looked sooo not today that it had to be tried on - I did it just for the fun of it. But as I stepped in it, I looked at myself in the mirror and I guffawed at myself. It fitted me perfectly! I couldn´t believe it!! It looked as if the designer had done it only for me. I really had to talk myself out of it, because to which occasion do you wear an eighties-bridesmaid dress? Yes... I know.... But still, awesome dress!
And then I threw on very quirky pants made from fabric that looked like you could scuba-dive in it. Very quirky as I said. I tried it on and it fitted me perfectly, too! Unbelievable. It had a very high waist and was loose at the legs. It slimmed my waist, but still I didn´t feel like buying it.
Instead I bought myself a very chique black alligator bag (at least I act as if it was real alligator, shhhh peta guys, the animal is already dead!) for only 10 (!) euros! I jumped out of joy!
AAAAH, I love the feeling of vintage - it´s like the clothes tell their own stories. Because - what story does a h&m tee tell? "I was made in cambodia by three little low-paid children"? Instead, this one bag I bought in Paris last year from a really great vintage shop has a great story to tell: it was made in Canada and then came to Paris - maybe to hang on the arm of a sixties feminist?
