Growing up, I have developed a serious kind of addiction for nail polish. I love the feel of it, the colours and the elegant or sexy or flirty or all-together look it gives you. For me nail lacquer is a big part of an outfit and it just makes boring things look like a stylist had put them together.
This season, there had been one big trend in the nail section and this trend was - from where else? - coming from chanel!
The beauty department of chanel has grown so important in the last couple of years that by now the trends are sort of combined with nails and make-up. Which is - in my opinion - the best thing that could´ve happened, because to be honest chanel is an veeery old brand and it is fascinating that it still sort of survives in this unimaginable quick industry. And the only way to survive there is to offer clients the whole package: clothes, beauty - everything what a woman needs (okay that sounds veeeery superficial, but you know what I am talking of, right?).
Over the last years, I found out that the commercial beauty market (at least here in Austria) is soooooo slow in taking on the fashion trends. For instance, it took like one and a half year to be able to buy black nail lacquer at a normal beauty store, whilst the big (and expensive) fashion brands already had launched their vampire-inspired nail polishes.
So, this season it is chocolate. Well, of course I love the idea and the way it turned out. I think it is a perfect addition to an outfit that needs a bit of elegance and chiqueness (does this word exist? - anyway...), maybe some slutty (you know which outfits I am talking about) going-out outfits. But I am afraid that if you choose to wear it with a normal, classic business outfit it could look a bit too demure and elegant - at least for my taste.
I love the chanel make-up by the way, but I literally shiver when I see it in combination with the nails. It is just too earthy, I think. Combine the nails with dark eyes and nude lips, while pairing the blushy, fresh make-up with red or dark-red nails for a more contrasting look.
In every magazine I am literally searching for this stylish goddess: Olivia Palermo. Last year the world (and myself) fell in love with her because of her super-chique, polished style and subtle arrogance. But as this year begun and moved on, she just kept looking worst and worst. I don´t know why. It is like in 2008 when Mischa Barton stopped looking boho, and started looking drunk and like a drug-addict.
Olivias nails just show her way of living. She is a wealthy girl, so she can afford manicure every(day?)week and the colours is so popping and still not over-done that you can wear it every where. I looove it!
My family (okay, the females in my family) have always worn red nail polish and so I was happy to inherit that and take the tradition on.
I also love Olivias jewellry (that necklace, those rings she is always wearing, yes, even this watch - OMG), but sometimes I think she looks too well put-together. Because what is kind of modern and fresh is that you actually can interpret fashion in a more easy-breezy, laid-back kind of way and not in this strict and straight one.
Great outfit for Café on weekends, right? Maybe, this saturday? I should phone the girls....
My other nail-goddess (yes, I am that obsessed with it that I even sort of have nail-lacquer role models) is Whitney Port. She and Olivia star in MTVs THE CITY.
Although you can´t quite see her nails here, I think this photo just shows her very unique way of style. She is a designer too and even when you only look at her nails, you sense her creativity. She has done it all - blue, yellow, orange, sparkles, red, dark-red, black, dark-blue, turquoise... I did too, because I love her and I love colour.
As I am writing this I start to think wheter I should get my nails done in red (olivia) or pink (whit)?
Hmmmm....
